Bottoms Up!
A photo study of the oft-unseen logomarks under porcelain and fine china —below is a collection of photos taken of 64 unique pieces from my existing collection and many more that I sourced for this idea.
It was very fun to make some discoveries through this process about what these little logos can tell us — they are relics of countries that no longer exist, such as Prussia and Czechoslovakia. Another small observation — an enormous amount of these designs contain crowns, telegraphing a quality fit for royalty, and laurel wreaths, a two-thousand-year old symbol of victory and honor. as for color, green is the most popular after black, and gold and red are close behind.
I love these modern artifacts, and while they are beautiful right-side-up as they're meant to be seen, I wanted to focus on the logo art and omit the larger context.
Collage below if you’d like to examine each one a bit closer.
