University of Portland Alumni Wedding
CLARA + NOLAN
When I was a student at the University of Portland, I never imagined that I would be back photographing a wedding on campus just a few years later. Clara and Nolan are a couple of years ahead of me and we didn’t know each other while we were there, but there’s just something about all being alumni that creates this inherent connection.
They started their wedding with a beautiful, private ceremony at the campus chapel, with the Headmaster officiating. After we took family photos, I stole them away for some bridal portraits of just the two of them. Having such intimate knowledge of the campus really helped when I went to scout some specific spots ahead of time — I already knew which areas had great light, and a few locations that didn’t look too “college-y".
While walking around and behind academic buildings and dorms, we all had stories to recount from our times there. There were a few things that had been constructed since we all left, and it was so interesting to re-experience this place as we all have had some distance from it. Spring will always be my favorite time on this campus, and it was a lovely opportunity to capture the abundant blooming flora — as well as this brand-new, blooming marriage. I feel so grateful to have connected with this lovely couple of fellow alumni!
